My Actifit Report Card: May 29 2023

Hey Actifitters,

The weather continues to be very sunny here, but it's getting hotter and hotter. So yesterday, even if it was a day off, I decided to get up early (for me anyways) and go to Kensington Metropark with Kaia. It's been a while I wanted a change from our usual forest and it was the perfect opportunity. We were there before 9:30am and ready to walk. I parked right near the entrance at the first boat launch, so we could start on the easy path.

Very quickly, we arrived near the lake with some great views.

Kaia was curious but I didn't let her try the water. I read that many lakes in the area contains something that can be very harmful to dogs. So just in case, no swimming for Kaia!

After this wooden boardwalk, we also met the locals on the water.

The entire loop is 8.5 miles and it would have been too much for Kaia especially with the sun already heating up. So I decided our cut off time would be 11am, where we end up at that time, we turn around. But there was still plenty of great views on the way.

Don't let the pictures fool you, it was the first time I saw so many people in this park. Multiple events, including running races and charity walks, and of course the sunny weather brought many people. It was a great test for Kaia. And she was a rock star! She ignored all distractions, including other dogs, and was very well behaved! Some kids even asked to pet her (very politely by the way, that was nice), and she just stayed there being cute! At that next viewpoint, there were at least 100 people but the best tables on the lake were free for some reason.

Not exactly sure what these things were but I found them interesting.

I wanted to make a stop near the lake in the shade before turning around, but these two were guarding the spot. They were very loud and I didn't dare approaching them too much.

So we kept walking a bit before our first break.

Finally, Kaia got some deserved rest in the shade and a water break. And so did I of course.

But I didn't want to stay too late because of the heat, so we got back to the boat launch near where the car was parked.

Another water break was needed.

And finally, one last loop near the beach to get back to the parking lot.

By the time we finished, it was very hot already. In total, it was about 6 miles. Not a huge hike, but a very nice one. I'm more used to visiting there around sunset time, but it's great in the morning too. Kaia was tired and didn't move at all the whole drive back. We didn't do much the rest of the afternoon, and stayed inside away from the heat.

But in the evening, I thought I needed more activity and went for a bike ride, while Kaia just continued resting. It was another opportunity to catch a great sunset.

And that was it for the day. I know I complain a lot about the heat, but we managed to make it a great day anyways.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
