Development Update - Power Down Bug Fix and Proposal System Improvements

in blurt •  2 years ago

Hi, folks!

This is a post to update the community on the latest software development and bug fixes relating to the Blurt wallet app - https://blurtwallet.com.

Wallet Proposal System

When the wallet app was forked from Hive, its user interface for the proposal system was barely functional and wasn't needed right away so we simply deprecated the functionality from the wallet.

However, since the proposal system will be newly opened to the public soon (on 2022/07/07), there is now a need for a functional interface.

That's why @tekraze and @saboin spent the time to fix what was broken and add some functionality as well as improve the overall design.

Proposal UI Listing Fix

The proposal UI has been modified to make it more intuitive and aesthetically pleasing.

The tags for return-type proposals have been styled differently:

  • A green tag to show return proposals (proposals that just send the funds back to the DAO treasury account, @blurt.dao);
  • A red tag to show burn proposals (proposals that burn the funds it receives, ie. it sends the funds to @null).

There was also a bug that stopped the page from loading if there were any proposals with no votes on them. That has been fixed.

Here's a screenshot of the new interface:

Creation

The original interface had no means of creating new proposals. This functionality has been added.

Voters List

It is now possible to see the list of voters supporting a proposal by clicking on the total approval value (numerical value) just above the voting button.

If you are curious to see the code changes, all related commits can be found in the following branch on GitLab:

Other Upcoming Additions

We still want to add some features.

Some of those features are:

  • the ability to remove an existing proposal by that proposal's creator;
  • displaying the ID number of the proposals.

We will aim to have these added soon.

Wallet Power Down

It was reported to us that some accounts were not able to power down. This was an issue that was hard to track down since the devs were unable to replicate the bug during testing.

@tekraze has spent a whole day figuring out the causes of this issue.

It was related to the life cycle and props of the React code, along with a logic issue when checking for delegated vesting shares. If an account wasn't delegating any BP, it tripped the logic and caused an error. That's why some accounts were affected, but not others.

This is fixed now as we refactored the power down code and fixed the logic issue.

Power downs work correctly now.

Stay tuned for more updates.

guess that´s kind of simple thing for such a qualified dev-team, ormaybe there is a good explanation from the man in the drivers seat on that issue...

This is happening to a small number of users only, so we are still looking for the issue. We will fix it soon.

Thanks

you´re welcome ;)

yay! finally the power downs 😂

"Proposals" seem to have caused a problem, which is now resolved. On top of that, there seems to be quite a bit of effort going into this proposal thing. What are proposals, and how do they impact a simple contact-creator like myself, and those of us with stake on the platform?

The inflation rewards pool pays out into various baskets, the most common being the post and curation rewards as well as the witness rewards and the passive inflation on powered up Blurt. A portion of the global annual inflation is paid into the proposal system so that users can submit worker proposals to get funded for non-blogging activities such as development work.

It isn't actually that much, circa 326K Blurt per month which at current rates is just over 2K USD, so it doesn't fund very much.

That's cool, though. Thank you for the info. Is there anywhere a simple content-creator like myself can find similar info (like on how things work around here), all in one spot? I keep learning little tidbits like this, mostly in comment replies, but maybe there's a more efficient way. Thanks!

@drutter part of the work I am doing is to gather all relevant information to Onboarding New Blurt users as fast & efficiently as possible. Unfortunately, resources have not been applied to this task yet, or nobody has pointed me to that information either since I started on Blurt 2 month's ago. So I have developed a rudimentary Onboarding System that can be modified Quickly & Easily with no programming knowledge needed.

Blurt Open Source Learning Management System and Onboarding Dapp Model featuring TTFM Turntable.FM as a 'Case Study' for any GitHub Open Source Dapp currently running on Web3.

What is LMS [Learning Management System]?

An LMS is a software that delivers online courses to your employees or Open Source Colleagues, providing them with fresh data when it’s not possible to gather in one place.

Now ANYONE with a Smartphone can Build their OWN BLURT Open Source Dapps via Turntabl.FM simply by copying the Libraries Already Built in the BLURT Quantum Party Channel of Turntabl.FM initially as a learning exercise that teaches the person how to repeat it for themselves with ANY project of their choice~!

And NO PROGRAMING KNOWLEDGE NEEDED to Get Started in the Dojo Today~!

Thanks a lot Blurt developer to checking blurt mistakes and improve ASAP. I really glad to see that you make Blurt a great platform. I visit these new features.

It all looks good , thanks to our hardworking developers who are always here giving there time to make blurt a better place.

I will check all these new features soon 🙂
