Northman Movie Review (spoiler free)

in blurt •  2 years ago

Hands down one of the best movies I've seen in the last decade. Eye dazzling, graphic, and incredibly attention grabbing. Northman will keep you on the edge of your seat and bring you through an emotional roller coaster as you follow the life of a prince robbed of his thrown who turns half neanderthal and half savage viking warrior on a mission of vengeance taking place in 800AD Iceland.

The movie has many unexpected twists and turns to the very end, all while capturing a culture shockingly realistic way of life before electricity, before guns, before many things. A time of small populations, a time of slaves, a time of kings and queens, and a time of complete brutality. It was a time where honor and ensuring your DNA got passed down came above your own life and pursuit of happiness.

The realness and serious drama is reminiscent of the classic Dances with Wolves with 2022 filming quality, graphics, and a faster pace. Some scenes reminded me of a first person video game, but on another real life level. The main actor looks like a jacked up neanderthal and basically plays one too. Very good acting and this will surely be a movie you don't forget.

Furthermore, I read a review about this movie siting that it's very popular because there is no "woke" propaganda in the film. There is no brokeback mountain surprise two dudes kissing scene. There is no Russia is the enemy. There is no, someone wearing a face mask out of the blue; or here is the Asian guy, and here is the Latino, and here is the black guy.....in 800AD Iceland just to be inclusive. No product placement. Zero, none of that; I'm almost surprised how the movie got made and funded in this day and age.

This movie delivers in a way reminiscent of movies 25 years ago in terms of a no-nonsense serious action drama; but with all the eye dazzling quality of you'd expect from something made this day and age. The way the times and life of 800AD Iceland is captured is almost shocking in it's own right. It really is a time where human lands somewhere between savage animal and modern man, and this plays out over and over throughout the length of the movie.

Have you seen Northman yet? What do you think of my review? Note there is plenty of graphic violence and it's rated R. Here is the trailer below. Thanks for taking the time and have a great day! From Beautiful Thailand - Dan "World Travel Pro"

This one could have been so much better, I know personal taste is not up for discussion but this movie if find it dark, slow, not engaging , I could say even boring at times. It looks good, it sounds good but for me the story is a let down.
Well, they can't make everyone happy :)) But if you liked this one you should also watch(if you didn't already) The Lighthouse 2019 and/or The Witch 2015

That is often how it goes for movies, art, music. For each their own. I certainly found it very fun to watch and entertaining. Thanks for other recommendations, I ll have to look them up.

Hey Dan, thanks for the recommendation.

Thank you! When I saw your post I immediately groaned and thought "oh no, another movie with an agenda that fair-skinned people are evil.... or that will re-write history to include a large number of gay and/or black people that never actually existed in that time and place." I watched the new Anne of Green Gables (formerly a great Canadian classic period-piece), and I just about puked. Totally reimagined reality, and pretended racism and vaccines were huge topics of the day back in 1876. The abundant black people were very innocent and sweet, but constantly being discriminated against (or worse) by literally every white character. Over and over and over again. Every episode was a lesson in critical race theory. What a great story, ruined by woke propaganda.

Very nice to hear they didn't do that to this movie. It's becoming so that you have to go back to 2010 or so, if you want to watch anything not filled with brainwashing of this sort.

Also, a movie with a powerful male figure? Surely he's a hateful womanizer, a bigot, a transphobe, a conspiracy theorist, and a Trump supporter, right? LOL

Sounds a bit like 300, Gladiator, etc. An epic/action/historical/adventure film.

Anyway, I will look into seeing this one. Thank you.

For real, I go out of my way to download movies I have not seen from pre 2010, as the propaganda has really become off the charts.

Right, hard to believe...he's just full on jacked up barbarian and entertaining to watch.

I already watched the movie @world-travel-pro and I must say that I must protest about its weird conclusion of the movie. But anyway for entertainment purpose it delivered good because it is not boring to watch considering that my attention flies all over the place but if asked if I will watch it again I will not.

It also made me think that I can never see my favorite action movie stars again because they had gotten old, some retired, and some passed-away.

Also movies today must be carefully crafted so that it will not take some form of heat from certain groups of society so it is brilliant that this movie got created dodging the dangers of what woke groups would throw.

I remember when the movie Schindler's List movie was set to be shown in my country in the early mid-90's, certain women's group pointed out the "Pumping" in the sex scene plus the nude scenes in some segments of the film and asked the movie to be banned but it was shown in movie theaters anyway. It is the time where movie downloading is still non-existent.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the movie. I'll say no more, but I enjoyed the ending; you hit the nail on the head, very entertaining movie indeed. I did not know that was a big deal in your country....what you mention about Schindler's list.

Oh, i really wanna watch it!!! I might do it tonight 🙏🏻

If you do I'm curious to know what you think...

You reminded me of the tv show ''The vickings". That was so awesome, especially the last part. I wish them the continue that. Anyway, I will not read the spoiling before I'll watch this one. Looks also powerful. I liked also the one called ''See". That's also something awesome.

I think you'll like. Very entertaining.
