Hello everyone, I trust y'all doing well over there. I hope your weekend is going well too. In this article, I am writing about what a computer virus is, types, and how to be safe from them.

A computer virus is software application that replicates itself in a computer when executed and causes damage to data and storage in the system. It could steal data, send data, and lock files if the unsuspecting user.

Signs to know if your system has been hacked or infected with a computer virus


System overheating


One of the signs of an infected system is overheating. This is because the program runs heavily and takes a lot of resources from the system. This shows the system is infected by a virus.

System lag


The speed of a system becomes very slow and laggy when infected by a computer virus. Because the virus uses a lot of memory resources, it begins to freeze or lag the system.

Webcam light turns on without use


Some viruses are spywares. They are used by attackers to spy on the infected pc by capturing data from the webcam. When the light of the webcam of your system turns on without use, it means it has been infected and you're being spied on.

Pop-up window


Unwanted and annoying pop-ups begin the pop-up on the screen. Some could be annoying graphic advertisements. When this happens, your system has been hacked by a virus.

Programs self-executing


When computer programs self execute themselves, it could be infected by a computer virus. This slows down the booting of the system.

Types of Viruses


  • Worms
  • Ransomware
  • Trojan
  • Network virus
  • File infector

How to be safe

  • Do not download unofficial applications as they could have viruses embedded in them

  • Download your applications from only trusted websites.

  • Stay away from site that claim to provide free dubbed softwares.

  • Use antivirus applications to scan your system for viruses and delete them.

  • Avoid clicking pop-up advertisements, they could be dangerous.

Computer viruses are very harmful as they can cause lots of damage and disrupt a computer network and also steal data. Keeping our system safe, can and antiviruses installed, can help us a lot.
