Hello everyone again! After a long time of inactivity without posting I'm motivated to post again, now that I'm more free from school activities.

I am studying 5th year of high school. Among the requirements to be able to graduate, the educational zone requests that students see a course that serves to learn a trade. The options were only baking and cooking.
I chose the baking course, not only because I like sweets, but because my best friend also chose this one. For four Fridays we were watching baking classes in the school kitchen. We learned how to make cookies, coconut kisses, cake and meringue.
At the end of the course we had to divide into groups to make some of the recipes seen in class and then together make a general presentation to the Ince (It is the institution in charge of certifications).

We decided to prepare cookies for our final test. On the agreed day we met at the home of one of the classmates and each one of us took one of the ingredients of the recipe.
What we needed was

  • 1/2 kilo of flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 grams of butter
  • Rain of colors
  • Essence (we used cream)
  • 250 grams of sugar

First in a bowl add the butter and sugar to cream the butter, beat for about 5 minutes (the sugar is added in parts, not all directly). It should be smooth so that the cookie dough is well done and without lumps.

Then break the eggs, preferably in another container, and add them to the mixture. This is to avoid damaging the whole mixture if an egg is in bad condition.

After this add the essence and a little baking powder to make them rise. (We forgot the latter, but they grew quite a bit anyway). Then sift the flour in another bowl, add it to the mixture in parts and mix in an enveloping way.

Let the dough rest for about 10 minutes in the refrigerator (we also forgot this one).

Then the dough is introduced in a pastry bag to give a nice shape to the cookies. Meanwhile we preheat the oven to 180º centigrade.

After we have all the cookies on the trays, we add the colored sprinkles and then in the oven for about 20 minutes. When the edges are light brown the cookies are ready. If the edges are dark brown, they are overcooked and if they are too light, they are still raw.

Despite forgetting the baking powder and not letting them sit in the fridge for 10 minutes, the cookies grew and turned out delicious, so much so that we ate some (quite a few) right out of the oven.
The day of the presentation each group brought what they had prepared. When it was our turn we explained step by step how we had made our cookies. When they tasted them they liked them, they were good in taste, texture and presentation. They were delighted with our cookies.

This was a satisfying and enjoyable experience for me. I learned a lot, the classes were very didactic and I discovered that I liked baking more than I thought I would.
