Mid Spring Garden Update

in garden •  11 months ago  (edited)

Here comes May, and though I'm working hard, I have little to show for it! It's my first year living here, and there wasn't a garden until I started digging up the back lawn! Here's an expansion I put in a couple days ago:

And another, this afternoon:

You may be able to see the row markers in the watered (dark) section. As I mentioned here, I have planted 5 different crops so far:

2 types of lettuce, spinach, carrot, and shallot (onion). Rain has kept them damp, while sunshine warmed their bed, so I think they will be germinating now. I gave them their first gentle hose watering today.

Digging progress is slow. I'm making the effort to get out there most days, but I can only spare about an hour, and I'm with my 3 year old son. I'm in a lot of pain and my nerves an heart are malfunctioning, so I do what I'm able to. I was hoping to have more area cleared by this point, and all the crops that need to be planted in Spring already in. I'll put in more spinach, and some peas, in the next few days.

Ultimately, I want something like this:

Another 5 workdays would complete the lower-left quadrant. Which is great, that's a decent area. But I want to do some beans, tomatoes, potatoes, and other plants that take up space.

I think what I'll probably do is complete the lower-left quadrant, and then do the upper-left quadrant, and then expand next year. Spreading the job over 2 years makes sense. It's a pretty ambitious garden. Certainly my biggest yet.

I'm looking forward to seeing green shoots very soon! Mid Spring is coming on, and at that point a gardener loves being surrounded by little seedlings soaking up the Spring rain and sunshine!

Good work. Gardening is extremely important and takes time to master. Our garden is 4 years old.

I think spreading it out over two years is a good plan. Realistic. Very difficult to start form zero and have the garden one wants in time to plant. It's really a project over time.

Growing up, Dad expanded the garden over time.

I look forward to seeing your seedlings germinate, and your hard work finally shows the first signs of bearing fruit.

I know you have heart problems, but I didn't remember that you felt pain. Do you have chest pain? Could it be that you suffer from nerves from thinking too much about the heart problem?

I have a friend who now lives in Italy who suffered from nerves because he thought that he could die at any moment; I recommended to him watch a documentary called "The Secret" by Bob Proctor and Joe Vitale and also another documentary called "What the Hell Do We Know" directed by William Arntz, Betsy Chasse, and Mark Vicente.

Today, he no longer suffers from any of that.

Weldon buddy, lots of work has been done with much energy. Having and growing a garden is not a child's play. After some time you will start having to weed out unwanted plants

Just take it slow. It is not easy to dig especially that looks hard. No matter how slow you were, you will be able to finish it if you just constantly do it. More power to your crops! Looking forward for its shoots soon.

Man we're expanding that garden like sims putting down new carpet on payday before cheats!
