The SLIPPERY Slope ( Euthanasia Laws Are Expanding)

in informationwar •  2 years ago

"Canada's assisted dying laws have been slowly expanding into a genocide program. We are headed down a slippery slope, where prerequisites are stripped and oversight is non-existent. Will we reach the point of no return?"

I don't share all her concerns, but it's true that this issue needs more attention and better understanding.
I believe people have the right to stop living, and getting in people's way is ethically suspect. Of course, that does not apply to people who are out of their minds, or not capable of properly consenting (like minors). I don't think government permission should be required. Basically this is "legalization" of suicide. Never get the government involved, they screw almost everything up. Just like with the legalization of cannabis, all we really wanted was government to get out of the way and stop regulating/prohibiting it.

I appreciate your point of view and willingness to share it. It's a hard place to put oneself. Right to die in a society, we hope, that values life. No one wants people to suffer. Should the medical community, which people don't trust, be involved? Lots of question and lots of debate. I'm a small government gal too but I am not comfy with the medical institutions having a hand in suicide. I think the more hands involved the more likely there will be abuse of vulnerable people. Encouragement and incentives by controlling forces to promote and use this to depopulate the undesirables. I do agree that people control their own lives and not the government. People should be able to drink themselves to death, overdose, and otherwise abuse themselves so why not kill themselves too. It's a big uncomfortable topic. I, personally, find cognitive dissonance within myself on this topic. I imagine many people are conflicted on it too. People need to openly debate this rather than just let the "authorities" decide.

There's an emotional side to the discussion as well. I value life very highly. I also really dislike suffering, that of myself and others. And of course I feel strongly about personal rights to life. Definitely a big uncomfortable topic!
