Merry Christmas - My Shopping Activity On Christmas Day

in instablurt •  last year

I had no plans to leave the house today. Another uninteresting day was in store. The rain just stopped falling. Apparently, there was power supply and I had prepared my house with food and energy drinks for the day. I have a fast-paced forex and cryptocurrency seminar tomorrow, and I haven't even started to prepare. My friend called while I was watching Netflix and said, "Hey Memphis, let's get out."

I ended up in Jendol supermarket as a result of that. I acquired a few things, helped my sister in getting her large teddy bear, and thoroughly enjoyed my evening. Today's post will be a review of this supermarket. I'll talk about the interior and exterior views as well as some of the unique features.

Jendol Supermarket

Jendol is one of the supermarket I regularly visit since they provide a variety of goods, including food items, stationery, supplies, electronics, toys, skin care products, and even cakes and snacks. Yes, the supermarket has a sizable bakery that sells already made cakes, breads, and other snacks. You can also ask for or order any of these cakes or snacks for your wedding, birthday, or other anniversaries.

The supermarket is the largest in my vicinity and ought to be in the top ten largest in Ifako LGA. The size of the supermarket and given how well-stocked it is, you should definitely anticipate a steady stream of consumers. On the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, in Agege Lagos, is where you'll find this supermarket.

Given its extensive selection of food items, home and kitchen appliances, clothing, children's toys, skincare products, as well as snacks, breads, and cakes, the Jendol superstore truly is a one-stop shop. The majority of the items in this store are purchased directly from manufacturers or well-known brands, so the prices are always affordable.

Before I talked about my experience while shopping at kids toys section where I got my sister's teddy bear, let me give you a tour of this market. Keep in mind that this supermarket is an international one that both locals and visitors patronize. The store is well organized and each products or items have it own sections, there's a section for food, skin cares and body spray, kid's toy, provisions, electronics and home appliances, clothing and other kitchen utensils and many more, this includes the item layed down on the shelf with the full name and price tag labeled on it. The first section I went to is the skin care section, this is because I needed a cream and body spray.

Skin Care & Body Spray Section

Remember, I didn't come to the supermarket alone: my friend who called and asked us to come was with me as well. He also needed a body cream and spray. I was looking at various types and brands of body cream; I usually use Nivea, but it's quite pricey right now. I asked my friend for recommendation, but he said he didn't know which would be best for my skin and that he wasn't an expert.

Consequently, I made the decision to approach one of the staff members, particularly the one at the skin care section. If you shop at a large or advance supermarket, you should be aware that there are always one or two staff members present at each section in case a customer needs anything. So I asked her for recommendations, and she was kind enough to recommend Carol White, a body cream that cost 1500 Naira (9.375 STEEM)

Still in the skin care section, I moved to the body soap shelf and chose an antiseptic soap for 350 naira (2.18 STEEM), then I went to the body spray and perfume shelf and selected a body spray for 1,300 naira (8.12 STEEM), and I finished my shopping at the skin care section with a pink lips bam and a roll on for 600 naira (3.75 STEEM) and 1,000 naira (6.25 STEEM) respectively. The total cost of all my purchases from the skin care section is 4,750 naira (29.68 STEEM)

Kitchen Utensils & Home Appliances Section

One positive aspect of this supermarket is that you can buy the most latest kitchen utensils and appliances; there are electric heaters, gas saucepans, electric stoves, and heaters; anything related to the kitchen is available here. One item that caught my attention was a pancake machine; even though I don't have much, I would have probably purchased it to see how it actually works. How this pancakes machine will works has my utmost interest.

Next to the section of kitchen utensils is the home appliances and electronics. It's an intercontinental supermarket, and huge, wealthy individuals do come here to shop. Everything pertaining to electronics and other home appliances, such as a standing fan, water dispenser, washing machine, refrigerator, and freezer, can be found here. Depending on the type and brand, the price varies. Although it's still somewhat affordable in this supermarket compared to other local electronics shops that are reselling them, keep in mind that the majority of the electronics appliances in Nigeria are imported and that the cost of bringing them in is very expensive due to the high dollar to naira conversation rate.

Whiskey & Wines

Whiskey and wine is undoubtedly a favorite beverage of the average Nigerian adult; in fact, whiskey or wine are required for the majority of occasions in Nigeria, such as weddings, naming ceremonies, birthday celebrations, and so forth. There is a section of Jendol dedicated to wine and whiskey, where you can find a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic wines and whiskies. Since the majority of the wines there are imported, they are exceedingly pricey; in fact, the cheapest drink, called Skirt, costs 5,000 naira (31.25 STEEM)

Jendol Bakery

This is yet another intriguing feature of the Jendol supermarket. Inside the structure, the bakery is situated, and the majority of customers go there to buy Jendol bread. At Jendol supermarket in Lagos State, you'll find one of the freshest and tastiest breads. It's actually always served hot, directly from the oven, though you can also choose the cool ones.

Doughnuts, fish pies, meat pies, and even cakes are among the variety of snacks you can order. As I mentioned at the start of this post, you can also order already made cakes if you prefer or ask them to help you make cakes for any of your occasions.

I didn't go into the Bakery Section; instead, I only snapped a photo of the Bakery emblem from a distance.

Provisions Sections

Do you need anything pertaining to provisions, which also includes foods like cereal, golden milk, coffee, and tea, as well as items related to biscuits, cookies, and quick snacks like chin chin, potatoes, and plantain chips? The largest portion is the provisions, which is divided into smaller sections where you can also get drinks including water bottles, fruit juice, soft drinks, and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

You can as well get the cold or chill drinks if you want, there are big refrigerators containing different fruit juice, non beverages drinks, soft drinks and many more. I grab a one 5Alive fruit juice which cost 500 (3.12 STEEM) naira while my friend go for a homemade tiger nut drink that cost 800 naira (5 STEEM)

IMG_20220824_232146.jpgIMG_20220824_232120.jpg

We didn't stay long before returning to the provision area. I purchased two packs of chin chins at a cost of 200 naira each, for a total of 400 naira. My friend also purchased two packs, and he even offered to handle the bills, but I persisted and told him that I would take care of everything.

It's absurd how these things' prices have increased so rapidly; may this be related to the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Nigerian naira? I suppose so, but chinchin are made locally in Nigeria and aren't imported. It's possible that the cost of the raw materials and manufacturing equipment has doubled.

IMG_20220825_014828.jpgIMG_20220825_014809.jpg

The total amount we spent at the provision section was 2,200 naira (13.75 STEEM)

I nearly forgot my sister's teddy bear, but luckily my friend was able to remind me. We wandered around looking for the kids' toys section but couldn't find it; we then asked a member of the audience, who advised us to head upstairs. Despite many visits here to shop, I've never up the stairs. Normally, I wouldn't need to go upstairs because the majority of the things I required were always available, and up until today, I hadn't needed anything that wasn't available downstairs. I used the stairway to climb upward, and while there, I was able to capture pictures of the stairway and the view from the top.

IMG_20220825_005752.jpgIMG_20220825_005450.jpg

I then went to look for the kid's toy section. At first, all I noticed were toy automobiles and motorcycles, along with other playthings for kids like plastic chairs and tables, rocky chairs for kids, and many more.

IMG_20220825_022000.jpg

However, I eventually found the section with teddy bears, and I was amazed by the assortment of styles and sizes that were available. I debated which color to choose for my sister with my friend before deciding between the white and the red. My friend advised me to choose the white, but I absolutely adore the red color and can't stop staring at it. Now that I had a difficult choice to make, I chose to call my sister and inquire about her favorite color. She responded that she preferred pink.

Unfortunately, there are no big size pink colored teddy bear, there are only available in medium and smaller sizes, I told my sister and she said I should get her the medium size...

IMG_20220825_023422.jpg

The medium-sized pink teddy bear was priced at 5,500 naira, according to its price tag. It was quite pricey because I wasn't expecting a teddy bear to cost that much even for that kind of size; I checked the largest one and was astonished to discover the pricing at 37,000 naira. My friend then reminded me that since teddy bears are typically imported, the price is somewhat based on the exchange rate of the dollar and the naira.

Pink Teddy Bear For N5,500 (34.35 STEEM)

I had already finished my shopping and was happy to help my sister in purchasing her long-desired teddy bear. My friend and I went to the payment section to make the payment. Below is a list of the items we bought and their prices in naira and STEEM.

The cashier asked for my ATM card, which I pulled out, inserted it into the POS, entered my PIN, and the money was taken out of my account.

The items were packed, and I collected the invoice and payment receipt. At the exit door, security checked my payment receipt and punched a hole in it before thanking us for our shopping with them.

Overall, I had a wonderful time shopping and am delighted to give this store a review. I'll rate the supermarket a 9 out of 10. The power went out briefly while I was inside, which is why I didn't give them a 10 out of 10. I never imagined that a store this size would ever have a power outage. However, the relationship and customer service are fantastic, and I will certainly recommend it to everyone.

So, if you're visiting Lagos State, Nigeria, you can buy any of your groceries and other household items at any Jendol Supermarket.
