New York Trip: The Brownie and Friends

in lifestyle •  10 months ago

I am back from vacation and it was so nice to see family and friends again. I will do a separate post about my family. You know, the Mom I talk about on here at times and my Father who is staying there with Mom and my Step-Dad. My family get's it's own post. LOL.

So Syracuse, New York and the surrounding areas have not changed much. I did not see any new surveilance devices. There were some changes state-wide however we didn't know about. No more plastic bags at the stores. You have to bring a bag or buy a reusable one form them. Or...no bag at all if you like. The other big change is weed is 100% legal. No card needed. There are weed shops popping up everywhere. Of course, NY gets to tax it. Not just the sales tax but an additional tax like they do with beer and cigarettes there.

We met up with our friends for a gathering and cookout. One of our friends have been using pot medicinally for years. Now, 2 others are using it not so medicinally. These three were passing bongs and joints the entire time which is fine. Pot has no effect on me but gives me a wicked migraine when I smoke it so I did not partake. They chatted about all the different options available at the new stores. There's quite the product line of gummies, powder, and leaves appparently. Their favorite is this cherry powder that doesn't taste like cherry they said. I took a wiff and yeah, nothing like cherries and potent! Wow. One of the new users said a jar of her gummies is like $30 and she had everything. Clothing, a measuring spoon around her neck and on her key chain, little cannisters of powder, gummies, Leaves, and who knows what else. She had half the store in her bag I swear. She went all in. She was even talking about infusing cooking oil and mixing the powder in with her salt at home. When I say she went all in, I mean all in. She always does. Not matter what it is, she was the same way about vapping. She was practically her own store. A stockpile of batteries, more juice than you could smoke in a lifetime, and all the accessories available. Same thing here. Whereas I would have 4 batteries, enough juice for a month and that's it. LOL.

As I said it was a cookout. The one thing Hubby and I missed food-wise is real coneys. These are not chili-dogs as the midwest claims. Coneys are a white hotdog because they are slightly spiced. It's like a mild breakfast sausage really.

TASTY!!! Of course I had to chomp into one of those.

Everyone brought a dish to share and here is my plate of food. Mind you this is the only meal of the day for me.

Notice the little brown thing. That's a brownie. I love chocolate. So after my coney I went straight to the brownie. I started eating the rest of my meal when Hubby looked over and said, "Did you eat one of those brownies?"
"Yeah"
"All of it?" he asked.
"Yeah, why?"
"Let me know how you feel" and he giggles.
"Oh, I though she just used some sort of Dutch chocolate or something."

Believe it or not, I don't always put 2 and 2 together. Not right away anyway. I mean, they were just talking about cooking with it and pot brownies are a well known and a party item. Ghee. Naive Squirrelbait. It never occurred to me they would make pot brownies. It should have and I should have asked. I was concerned because I had plans the next day and didn't want to be down with a migraine. I brought herbs (feverfew) in case I had a problem on the trip but it can only do so much. I have never eated it before so I had no idea what to expect.

So what happened Squirrelbait?!

Nothing. That's right nothing. Thankfully no headache of any kind then or later but it did nothing for me. I must be immune to it's effects. Bummer really. It would have been nice to feel good without the headache. Guess I will not be buying gummies.

All in all it was a good time and it was wonderful to see these folks again. They are all good people and I missed them. We caught one another up on our lives. Turns out all but 2 didn't take the injection and the two that did only had one. The VA hospital required it for a needed surgery and her husband took it with her thinking they will face it together whatever it does. Romantic really.

Well that's enough for now. I will post the rest tomorrow.

Missed all of you and I will be spending a good part of the day catching up. I still have 85 emails to go through.

Sometimes people get no effect the first 1 or 2 times consuming cannabinoids orally. Either that, or they didn't cook the brownies at a high enough temperature to decarboxylate the THC.

Oh. I did not know that. Thanks. Sometimes I wonder if taking it orally would be helpful during an auto-immune flare. Ginger works well for me for inflammation thankfully but does nothing for pain and muscle spasms. Takes time for inflammation to calm down. Tensing up from pain makes the pain worse so a relaxant can help which advil is not. It's something I have been considering. Eventually it will be legal to just purchase everywhere.

Thankfully I am doing really well right now. I am over the latest flare. I hope to not have an issue for a long time! I am keeping the ginger up twice daily for awhile longer to be sure.

Well, even if you do it "wrong" with cannabinoids, you generally get some positive benefits anyway, and don't suffer major unwanted effects. Yes, I think taking an oral dose during flareups would help. I've known quite a few people who got through bad flareups that way. Good call on the ginger. @MediKatie picked up some organic turmeric capsules today.

Sounds like a good old upstate NY gathering. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I'm also glad you're back!
