My first finished piano composition (written for my mother)

It was almost exactly two months ago when we bought a piano and I described for you in this post my enormous excitement at being re-united with this instrument after around 30 years away from it.

Needless to say I have been tapping at the notes a fair bit since then and some time around two weeks ago I was busy creating when Sabrina interrupted me to let me know she really liked what I was doing. So I isolated the bit she liked and focused on it for a few days, building it outward from there and the piece gradually began to come together.

Last week a feeling started to grow that this should be for my mother. Knowing who it is for during the composition stage helps me tailor it for them and even try and catch some of their energy in it. My mother is a wonderful woman with an energy that is always positive, friendly, warm & drifty. Something like a calm tropical ocean.

There are a few little mistakes in there as I don't have editing software at the moment and it is incredibly difficult to play the whole thing through perfectly. Especially as I am currently on day seven of a fast and my energy levels are quite low. If you listen carefully you will hear our local church bell chime at exactly the right moment in the closing seconds of the track. A lovely little cherry on the cake from the Universe to forever remind me where I was when I recorded it!

And so, it is with great pleasure that I present to you now my first ever finished piano composition, Ocean Echo.

Love & Light everyone 🎹

Beautiful composition~! I the piano tuned to 432 Hz by chance?

Appreciate the comment.

I've actually not had to tune the piano since buying it two months ago, but I like your idea. Hadn't thought of that!

I just don't have any idea how to do it... yet.

Respect for this composition. It is really not easy to write a piece by yourself from beginning to end and I think you have achieved a beautiful variation, in any case a form of complexity that does not wear out with simple repetitions, while keeping the basic tenor and mood.

How wonderful that you can play the piano and seem to have effortlessly rediscovered your skill after this long time.
In a very few places (relatively early on) I found your left hand a little too fast, but that's criticism at a high level.

Beautiful! Thank you very much.

Thanks for dropping by here!

You say it's not easy to write something like this yet I can honestly say this flowed out of me with ease.

All I had to do was just sit there with my fingers touching the notes. For two weeks.

I was heavily influenced by a composer I am studying at the moment, the left hand basically copied from a rhythm of his. Though it is still an original piece! Just hard to be 100% original these days as we are all influenced one way or another by our experiences.

My son Esteban is composing now too (which was all part of the devious plan) so this is great to see!

So beautiful. At first I thought it was gonna be the theme from Lovestory then it was like The Piano and then more like Amelie so all in all it had lots of my favourite flavours of a piano tune except maybe Mozart.
I hope you will write more. I'd buy it.
Now it makes me want to get a piano coz I havn't had one since I left my parents and our piano over 40 yrs ago.

Thanks! I would say I was mostly inspired by an Enaudi piece I learned to play recently, Nuvole Bianche. The movement of the left hand is very similar, just in a different key. Impossible to be 100% original as we are all influenced in one way or another by the flavour of our life experiences, consciously or not.

I hope you will write more. I'd buy it.

Bless you :) No need to pay. I will always upload it for free.

What I can tell you after 30 years away is that when we come back to it, we play in a different way. It's like those life experiences I mentioned change what our fingers want to do with the notes and I enjoy it far more now than I did back then. So yes, get yourself a piano and see what happens!

Been thinking about it ever since I moved here as I don't intend to move again (hopefully). Will keep my eyes peeled for a 2nd hand Jallopi from now on.
I had lessons when young so imagine I would enjoy playing more now than then.

This is so beautiful. Joyous!! I am so glad you got a piano. I had no idea at that time how accomplished you are on the instrument. Nice to have you posting here...

Appreciate you thinking of me as accomplished but I'm not sure that's really true ;) I can't even read or write music. And in fact I had no idea what I could do till Sabrina asked me to learn Nuvole Bianche by Enaudi two months ago. Since then my hands just seem to move different. More fluidly. And very often, the less I think, the more my hands know what to do! Sometimes I will just sit and mess around for an hour and it really helps having Sabrina within earshot to point out the bits she likes. Without her for sure I wouldn't have turned this in to a finished piece.

Oh my that is incredible! The piano mystifies me - how does one hear and play many notes at once? So you essentially improvise to write a tune?

Bravo!

Gracias!

I find the practice of self voting copy/paste comments very odd for someone who wants to become a witness. And by the way, I don't need to be notified just because you voted for my post. I can see who votes already.

I guess your campaign would be more successful if you actually made a comment on the content before asking people to vote for you.

  1. I am working on updating my curation bot.
  2. Starting from today's 8 AM IST, I've removed asking for witness vote.
  3. I am running witness server, RPC node, curation bot, development work - a smaller self-vote on a comment may help me cut down the cost.

I know that it's the not best approach.
Help me find a better way to cut down the cost. I am all ears.
Open to suggestions.

Don't witnesses get paid? I guess not enough.

I am by no means an expert on this subject but over on hive I vote for witnesses simply because I like them. So, get to know people if you can. Engage with them and offer solutions to problems.

And if you are posting great content you should be getting great votes. Hive witnesses can make a ton this way. Certainly more than the average user.

Under your posts I would say is a more appropriate place to mention you are a witness and ask people to vote if they like your vibe.

Wow. Very beautiful…. A wonderful soundtrack for a movie. Yes the Church bell is perfect also.

Thanks for listening! Am really pleased you enjoyed. This will help motivate me to do more.

We only get 15 mins between church dongs (which can drive you a bit mad at times) and the one dong we heard signifies it was 15mins past the hour when I finished. Which is weird because I was conscious of my 15min window of opportunity and thought I got that right. But apparently not ;)

I listened again … it has many different parts … kind of like Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody… I also play piano and rhythm guitar by ear but cannot play anything much longer than 30 seconds without making a mistake … maybe I will play more when I retire. As soon as Bitcoin reached 100 k

Yeah …I remember how annoying it was to be woken by bells when I 1st arrived in Rome. But somehow I got used to it.

Our village came together and signed a petition some years ago in order to persuade our mayor to turn it off at night. Thankfully he agreed, so we have silence between 10pm & 8am. Can't even imagine having to listen to it all night! When it gets super cold (not long now) the bell stops working altogether. Which we love :)
