Dates are a delicious, sweet treat with a lot of benefits. I am a huge fan of dates, and live in a region of the world that produces a wide variety of dates grown on palm trees. Dates are healthy, go well with a variety of foods and are a great way to boost the immune system while adding to most meals.

Dates are common in middle-eastern diets, and have made their way to become popular in many eastern European markets as well. Dates are grown on palm trees, and many varieties exist. Dates are often coated in coconut or other fruit that makes them extra-nutritious. From a long-term health perspective, dates may support brain and heart health as well, and antioxidants can help prevent cancer and other ill-effects.

Like many fruits, dates are rich in fiber, Vitamin-C and antioxidants. Dates are also high in copper and manganese. Dates are easy to eat, and can be added to dishes that pair well with their sweet natural taste. I typically eat dates either off the tree or dried, and have come across dates rolled in shredded coconut.

Dates are also a good alternative to sugary treats. They contain natural sugar, and are almost as sweet as honey (depending on the species). I suggest that just about everyone increase their consumption of dates, as they have a sweet and distinct flavor and are healthy. They go well with meat as well, and you can add them to salads with spinach for a healthy boost. Some people add prosciutto and dates together for their complementary sweet/salty flavors and a protein boost.
