Spiritual health and well-being is essential for us to thrive in this lifetime. A connection with the Divine helps us overcome and transcend issues and puts life, which is a hard Marathon, into perspective.

In many Western societies the impact of spiritual health has been severely neglected. Consumerism has caused many to believe the spiritual realm is fake and irrelevant. Many times the self-help industry has pushed consumerism and materialism over spiritual well-being.

Being happy is important but it's a transitory phase. being spiritually healthy can bring contentment and also put things into perspective. Many times self-help gurus will point their followers into dubious directions based upon New Age precepts. True spiritual health is an ongoing process that connects us to the divine and we need to follow some kind of guideline, and for me that's the Bible.

Feeling a connection with God is important. I love to read the stories of how Jacob overcame issues in the old testament or how Jesus described love for his fellow man and love for the Creator God. It helps to put things in perspective and it helps me to look outside of myself. In a materialistic society such as this one we're often sold a bill of goods to get to happiness that never comes. Spiritual health helps us get through the hard times and focus on building a real connection between our world and the divine.

In order to thrive I've been focusing on my own spiritual well-being. I've been praying more, reading the Bible, studying scripture with my community and small groups and taking time to actually understand some spiritual precepts that I may have glossed over earlier in life. When you take time out to actually focus on the word of God you can find out how to claim your blessings. Being spiritually healthy means also that you understand that your blessings might not come right away and you have to wait and be persistent in your pursuit of the truth.

Important spiritual virtues including gratitude, forgiveness, persistence, charity and love for the fellow man are important in my life. Taking other people's lives into account during my daily life and also understanding that I'm part of a bigger picture has contributed to a lot of positive growth and also has allowed me to thrive daily.

Thanks for reading. Have a blessed day. Our society often undermines spiritual health but I highly recommend that you seek it.
