Greetings and welcome to a brand new @blurt.

Matt.13.24 - Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.
Matt.13.25 - But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.
Matt.13.26 - When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
Matt.13.27 - "The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?'
Matt.13.28 - "'An enemy did this,' he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
Matt.13.29 - "'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them.
Matt.13.30 - Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'" (Matthew 13:24-30)

I will admit that I am not a farmer. I know virtually nothing about growing wheat. I am willing to bet that most of you are in the same boat. The only thing I know about wheat is that it tastes pretty tasty when made into bread. However, Jesus’ audience grew wheat. They were much more involved with the production of their food.

Because I want us to gain as much understanding as we can, I decided to do a bit of research on the production of wheat. I discovered a weed that is almost completely identical to wheat called darnel. Darnel is virtually indistinguishable from wheat until the ears form. The problem with darnel is that it is exceedingly poisonous.

The parable from today’s reading is not talking about the lost and the faithful. This is a wheat field. Using the previous parable Jesus shared about the seed falling on different types of soil, we can understand that the wheat seed is the gospel. Therefore, the wheat that grows are the children of God. In other words: the church. This parable talks about the corruption of the church. Satan does not want the gospel to produce a faithful, pure, crop. And so, he wickedly infiltrates the church to pollute it.

2 Peter 2:1-3 warns us,

“But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them - bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.”

Also, Jude 1:4 tells us,

“For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.”

Each of these verses, and more, make it clear that Satan will never leave the church alone. He desires to destroy us from the inside if necessary. Into God’s perfectly imperfect wheat field, he has sent poisonous darnel to fool us. However, as seemingly identical as darnel appears to be to wheat, its treachery is discovered in its fruit. The ear of the darnel plant is different than that of wheat. No evil plant can grow good fruit.

This is why we must test every teaching against the truth of the Word. This is why we must examine the life of the teacher offering to lead our souls. A good heart produces good fruit. A life filled with the Holy Spirit will produce fruit that represents God’s character.

If we were to attempt to separate the darnel from the wheat, we would inevitably get it wrong sometimes. Even if we got it right, we might damage a weak wheat stalk. This is why God allows evil to persist amongst His children. For the sake of our spiritual safety, growth, and prosperity, God permits Satan’s decoys to remain – for a time.

Eventually, the truth always becomes evident. No one can fool themselves into heaven. While we wait for that judgement – that final harvest – we must take great care to ensure we are not fooled by those who merely pretend to belong to family of God. Put your teachers to the test. Put their lessons to the test. Don’t be fooled by that which poisons our souls and chokes our blessings from our lives.

Shalom

Pon a prueba a tus profesores.

Shalom
