Growing in the Right Conditions|| Crecer en las condiciones adecuadas [ENG-ESP]

Greetings to everyone @blurt today.

Matt.13.31 - He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.
Matt.13.32 - Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."
Matt.13.33 - He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough."
Matt.13.34 - Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.
Matt.13.35 - So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: "I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world."
(Matthew 13:31-35)

In amongst my flowers pokes a yellow stalk of mustard. Where I live, mustard never grows more than knee high; however, along the banks of the Jordan, mustard can grow up to 10’ (over 3 meters) tall! I imagine Jesus glancing over at a towering mustard plant and observing the birds busy with their nest making. Perhaps some of his listeners even lounged in the shade offered by its strangely colored branches.

What makes the parable of the growth of the mustard seed so impressive is the fact that nowhere else does the plant grow to such extremes. The conditions in the Mediterranean are perfect for the growth and success of the tiny seed. The same can be said of yeast in a bread starter.

My family loves homemade bread. However, I live in a climate of extremes. The temperature outside can change as much as 60-80 degrees in the course of a day. If you have ever attempted to make bread, you know that weather affects the outcome of your yeast mixture. If it is too cold, the yeast simply does not rise. Too hot, and it will bubble up so large that your bread will fall apart due to the giant holes the yeast bubbles leave behind.

However, in the ideal conditions, your bread will fill your home with the most inviting smell that promises sustenance like no other.

Jesus compared the kingdom of heaven to both mustard and yeast. After just finishing a parable describing the weeds amongst the members of His church, Jesus now gives us an example of the strength of a church founded on and living in the ‘perfect’ conditions. What are the perfect conditions for the church?

Jeremiah 17:7-8 tells us,

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

The perfect conditions for the kingdom of God is God.

How does the church prosper and provide for the community around it? By having roots that cling to and are nourished by our Heavenly Father. No amount of amenities can make a church welcoming. Every great outreach program will fail if what is reaching out is not the arm of the Lord. If we are to be the powerful church that infiltrates all the community where we are planted, we must be grounded on The Rock.

The source of our strength must be God and God alone. We cannot rely on flowery words or emotion evoking worship services but rather Christ and Christ alone. If we want to succeed, we must grow in the right conditions: the presence of God.

Shalom

Shalom
