It’s Not Someone Else’s Job|| No es el trabajo de otra persona [ENG-ESP]

Good morning to everyone @blurt today. Trust this meets you well.

Matt.14.13 - When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

Matt.14.14 - And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Matt.14.15 - And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

Matt.14.16 - But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

Matt.14.17 - And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
Matt.14.18 - He said, Bring them hither to me.

Matt.14.19 - And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

Matt.14.20 - And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

Matt.14.21 - And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children. (Matthew 14:13-21)

I have heard the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand many, many times throughout my life. The story always invokes a feeling of provision and safety within God’s care. It challenges my faith to believe in the impossible and trust God to do amazing things with the little bit I have to offer. It encourages me to be the boy with the lunch to share. Imagine his faith, above all else.

Picture the disciples in complete confusion looking at Jesus like he has lost his mind. The crowds that surround them were larger than most of the towns in the area and Jesus was telling them to feed them all. Then a young boy steps forward with five loaves of bread and two fish. I can almost see him passing off his lunch with a mixture of confidence and question as he offers, ‘You can have my food.’

Whether he believed others would join him in sharing their resources or he trusted that Jesus would do yet another amazing miracle, we can only speculate. However, his response is exactly what Jesus was looking for.

My favorite line of today’s reading is verse 16: “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” Over and over again, I read that line and let the command stir up in my soul. It isn’t someone else’s responsibility to feed the hungry. It is mine. It is yours. People are searching for the truth. They are hungry for salvation, and we have more than enough to share. We have the answer. We have the nourishment for their souls. It doesn’t matter how much (or how little) we believe we have to offer; God will multiply our offering to meet the need.

In 1884, Hattie May Wiatt, a mere 6 years old, told her pastor that Sunday School was very crowded. He responded that someday they would build a bigger church so more kids could attend. Little Hattie May died two years later in 1886. Her mother found a small pouch under her pillow after she died. Inside were 57 cents and a note which read, “To help build bigger so that more children can go to Sunday School.” The mother took the note to the pastor and the Wiatt Mite Society was born. The pastor, Russell H Conwell, changed Hattie May’s money into 57 pennies. He then sold each penny for $250.

The $250 collected for each penny was then changed into pennies and they in turn were sold for $250. Twenty-six years later, Hattie’s 57 cents had built a church for 5,600 people, a hospital where tens of thousands had been treated, put 80,000 young people through college, and supplied 2,000 people with what they needed to be sent out to preach – all because an eight-year-old girl gave 57 cents.

What do you have to give? Do you have a penny or two? Perhaps you have a piece of bread. Whatever your gift, God will multiply it to fill the need of people we love enough to share. “They need not go away; you give them something to eat"

Shalom

Shalom.
