Planning a trip back to Rome 🇮🇹

in travel •  2 years ago  (edited)

It has been a very long time since I have travelled outside of Canada …

I lived in Rome for 6 months many years ago as part of a Directed Studies Abroad (DSA) program and would like to make a return trip with my family.

So, I’m trying to plan a 1 week trip back to Rome with my wife and kids (16 and 18) ….

I’m not sure of the dates yet .. Spring or Fall of 2023 ?

We would like to stay longer and visit Milan, Lake Como, Cinque Terre, Tuscany and Rome but I also don’t want to spend all our time on a train or driving on the highway.

There is so much to see just in Rome …

So I am thinking that maybe a 1 week visit to Rome might be the best place to start and then make another Trip at a later date to visit Tuscany (Sienna, Florence) and the North ( Milan, Como, Venice)

I’d like to find a nice hotel near Piazza Navona and make daily walking trips to see the sights …

Day 1 : Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain.

Day 2 : Vatican, Sistine Chappel

Day 3 : Roman Forum, Colliseum

Day 4: Borghese Gardens, Gallery, Piazza del Popolo

Day 5: Via del Corso, Spanish Steps

Day 6 : Trastevere etc…

Day 7: Relax before Flight home …

Approx. Cost for 1 week :

Flights : $ 3,600
Hotel : $ 2,800
Meals : $ 1,000 ?
Museums, Misc,: $1,000 ?

Other suggestions, recommendations ?

Any other Italians here on Blurt ?

Yeah, expensive…. $8,000 + for 1 week. This is why we don’t travel much.

Super, we are waiting for you in Italy.

I’m Saving up all my crypto … I just need a big move up….

Are you near Rome ? I lived up on the Janiculum when I was there and went to School in Trestevere. It was wonderful.

Expensive, I hope there is another way you can go about it. When I was there six years ago I did find cheaper places to eat by wandering around just off of the main thoroughfares and there were some Chinese places that were far cheaper than much of the local fare. Which seems like sacriledge I know

In the end though it would be an experience to never forget whatever the cost

The flights and hotels are the most expensive,…. I think we can save $$$$$ on fresh food at the local markets. Fresh bread, cheese, prosciutto etc ….
